I’m still loving terrazzo. Its maybe even my fave ‘trend’, dare I say it, of the year. I don’t really tend to pay much attention to trends. I guess a lot of buyers in my position would think that was absolutely bonkers, but it’s just not how things have ever worked at SMUG. The whole concept around trends just doesn’t float my boat. I’m sure I’m subconsciously effected by trends of course. I’m influenced by the exhibitions, magazines, new architecture and design installations, fashion, food and Instagram grids of ‘the moment’. There is a common zeitgeist. However, I try to curate, buy for, develop and grow SMUG with my heart, my gut and my soul. Just like with my own home and wardrobe, I like to buy what I feel I’ll love forever, that aligns to my personal sensibility and that brings me joy. I know myself and I know what I like and goodness knows I’m a hoarder who likes to like said things for a long long time. How do you feel about trends?

I’ve needed a fair amount of wisdom and patience this last fortnight. I’ve been trying to be kind to myself whilst all the while finding time to chip away at the huge and ever growing to do list. How do you go about prioritising tasks when every one of them falls into the urgent and important box? It’s been a bit exhausting to be honest but as well as the failings, the jobs that just couldn’t get done and the occasional missed opportunity, there have been moments of real satisfaction, self care, pride and accomplishment. I’ve been doing my absolute best to live my best version of what work life balance could look like over these two full on weeks and although I’m super happy and excited to have @dapperdang around again to help with the buba, I’m also really quite impressed with myself and how I’ve managed to keep so many plates in the air under rather more stretched than usual circumstances. I’ve been thinly spread for sure. But I think I’ve been present everywhere I needed to be and for that I am grateful. #bekindtoyourself #worklifebalance #howtocurateyourlife

This week I am practicing what I preach and have decided to be kind to myself - even with the nagging fear that taking time to rest and avoid burnout might be ‘bad for business’. I have tonsillitis and am totally run down and exhausted so have decided to give the podcast a half term this week. Firstly, I am so sorry to disappoint. I know many of you enjoy a fresh #howtocurateyourlife episode for your Tuesday commute or to keep you company whilst working from home and I’m so very grateful to you for listening. I hope you understand that after a lot of thinking about what to do, I feel I must practice the same goals of work life balance, personal health (both mental and physical) and self care that I value so highly. Secondly, I want to encourage you to do the same. Do you need the day off? A week off? Even just taking the afternoon off to rest, rejuvenate and be kind to yourself could make the world of difference.
